2012

On February 17, 2012, Dwyer Tax Lawyers and ACT Autism Community Training will co-sponsor a presentation entitled “Beyond Wants and Needs: Supporting Social Interactions Between Students with ASD and Their Peers”. The speaker will be Dr. Pat Mirenda (UBC). A Professor in the Department of Educational and Counseling Psychology and Special Education at UBC, Dr. Mirenda lectures internationally and has published widely on inclusive education, developmental disabilities, autism, augmentative communication, and positive behavior support. The presentation will be held at the Mary Winspear Center in Sidney.

2011

On September 9, 2011, Dwyer Tax Lawyers and ACT Autism Community Training co-sponsored a workshop entitled “Addressing Autism Across the Lifespan: A Symposium on Building a British Columbia Where Adults with ASD Can Thrive”. The workshop featured an opening presentation by Dr. Anthony Bailey (UBC) with supplementary presentations by the following panel members: Dr. David Batstone, Dr. Jill Calder, Dr. Jonathan Down, Dr. Suzanne Jacobsen, Tamara Kulusic, Chris McIntosh and Arlene Zuckernick. The workshop was held at the Mary Winspear Center in Sidney.

2010

Give To Live 5000KM For The Cure

Lyndsay's and Bryan's Give To Live 5000 km bike ride from Vancouver, BC to Austin, Texas Our tax litigation assistant, Lyndsay, is going far. She will be cycling 5,000 kilometers this fall – all the way from Vancouver to Texas -- in order to raise funds for cancer research.

2009

On October 23, 2009, Dwyer Tax Lawyers and ACT Autism Community Training co-sponsored a lecture by Dr. Barry M. Prizant, Director of Childhood Communication Services and Adjunct Professor in the Center for the Study of Human Development at Brown University, Rhode Island. A world-renowned expert on autism, Dr. Prizant spoke on the SCERTS model, a comprehensive team-based approach to support the education of autistic children by focusing on Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support. On October 24, 2009, Blair Dwyer, Shelley Spring and Ryan Green presented a day-long seminar on Estate Planning for British Columbia Families with Special-Needs Children. This seminar was presented at the Mary Winspear Center in Sidney and was presented in affiliation with ACT Autism Community Training. For more information, click here.

2008

On September 20, 2008, Dwyer Tax Lawyers and ACT Autism Community Training co-sponsored a lecture in Victoria by Dr. Laura Schreibman, Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Director of the Autism Research Project at the University of California (San Diego). Dr. Schreibman spoke on current research in Pivotal Response Training. For more information, click here.



2005

Drop Zone

Blair Dwyer and Andre Rachert both participated in the 2005 Drop Zone by rappelling down the side of the13-storey CIBC Office Tower on September 22, 2005. They and the other 48 rappellers raised over $51,000 for Camp Shawnigan, the Easter Seals Camp for Children with disabilities.


Andre donned his best tux and did his slide down the side as James Bond.

Blair imitated King Kong. If you look closely, you can just make out Fay Wray on his shoulder. Some have said that this is the best photo ever taken of Blair.
